Transportation of both people and goods will face a number of interconnected challenges over the next decades, including urbanization, global climate change, and developing world motorization. Other noteworthy challenges include the global volume of vehicle-related fatalities, the overwhelming dependence of the transport sector on fossil fuels, an ageing air transport infrastructure that cannot keep up with increasing demand, and others.
This presentation describes how engineers, in cooperation with other stakeholders, will have a critical role to play in developing technology that will enhance the sustainability of the transport network for future generations.
