FOCUS GOAL: Re-Establish the Presidential Scholarship

Once funded, the TMS Foundation will award this prestigious $5,000 scholarship to an undergraduate student of exceptional promise majoring in metallurgical engineering, materials science and engineering, or minerals processing/extraction. The award will also include a travel stipend to receive the award at the TMS Annual Meeting.

The TMS Foundation helps nurture the future of the minerals, metals, and materials fields by supporting scholarships and student programs. These activities not only remove barriers to education but encourage a deeper involvement in the greater materials community.

The following programs for students are funded in part or in full by the TMS Foundation:

Acta Materialia Inc. Undergraduate Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to deserving students to help lighten the burden of educational expenses. In addition, a travel stipend is available to encourage attendance of the TMS Annual Meeting & Exhibition where students can meet mentors and expand their own technical interests.

Kaufman CALPHAD Scholarship

The Kaufman CALPHAD scholarship provides additional support to undergraduate students as they pursue an education in metallurgical engineering, materials science and engineering, or a minerals processing/extraction. The travel stipend included with the scholarship also creates an opportunity for recipients to benefit further by attending the TMS Annual Meeting & Exhibition.

TMS Best Paper Contest

Being selected for a best paper award is a resume- and experience-building opportunity for students working toward a successful career after graduation. The contest provides participants the opportunity to showcase their work and to display original thought and creativity in the development of their essay.

TMS Division Scholarships

Each of the five technical divisions within TMS awards a scholarship to undergraduates studying in the division’s area of technical interest. These awards not only provide much-needed financial support but they promote professional growth and networking as recipients are invited to attend the division’s committee meeting or luncheon during the TMS Annual Meeting & Exhibition.

Funds for the Battelle Materials Graduate Student Award will soon be exhausted and will be issued on a first-come/first-served basis.

TMS International Symposium on Superalloys Scholarship

This award for undergraduate and graduate students helps expose students to the latest research in their field by providing travel assistance to attend either the International Symposium on Superalloys or the Materials Science & Technology (MS&T) conference and includes financial assistance to help further their education.

Travel Grants

By providing travel assistance to participate in events like the TMS Annual Meeting & Exhibition or Materials Science & Technology (MS&T) conference, these grants remove barriers towards attending professional conferences. This gives students an opportunity to explore the latest innovations in their fields, present their own work, and grow their future prospects by networking with potential mentors and employers.
